Ebook About
Soon to be a major film from Academy Award–winning director Clint Eastwood—starring Sam Rockwell, Kathy Bates, Jon Hamm, Olivia Wilde, and Paul Walter Hauser! This collection of captivating profiles from Vanity Fair writer Marie Brenner spans her award-winning career and features larger-than-life figures such as Donald Trump, Roy Cohn, Malala Yousafzai, and Richard Jewell—the security guard whose dramatic heroism at the bombing of the 1996 Olympics made him the FBI’s prime suspect.Previously published as A Private War, Marie Brenner’s Richard Jewell tells a gripping true story of heroism and injustice. In the early morning hours of July 27, 1996, three pipe bombs exploded at the Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia, killing one person and injuring 111 others. Hundreds more potential casualties were prevented by the vigilance and quick actions of security guard Richard Jewell, who uncovered the bombs and began evacuating the area. But no good deed goes unpunished. Desperate for a lead, investigators and journalists pursued Jewell as a potential suspect in the case, painting him as an obvious match for the infamous “lone bomber” profile. Accused of being a terrorist and a failed law enforcement officer who craved public recognition for his false heroics, he saw his reputation smeared across headlines and broadcasts nationwide. After a months-long investigation found no evidence against him, the US Attorney finally cleared Jewell’s name. Yet Jewell would not be fully exonerated in the eyes of the public until the actual bomber confessed in 2005, just two years before Jewell’s premature death at the age of forty-four. In Richard Jewell, veteran journalist Marie Brenner brilliantly chronicles Jewell’s ordeal to share the story of an ordinary man whose life was shattered by a false narrative. This collection also includes Brenner’s classic encounters with Donald Trump, Roy Cohn, Malala Yousafzai, Marie Colvin, and others.

Book Richard Jewell: And Other Tales of Heroes, Scoundrels, and Renegades Review :

One star - should be 0 stars. I might like the rest of the book except for the passage "How Donald Trump and Roy Cohn's Ruthless Symbiosis Changed America" - Plenty of this chapter is here-say, not facts. Planting this piece of "information" (and with that title) is actually funny. When reporters (and writers) use here-say and opinions but try to tell us these are the facts, when they are NOT facts, how can we believe any of their words? Once again, any story can be presented as good, bad, foolish, dishonest or even evil. The authors OH!pinion is clearly anti-Trump. It's laughable now to think the rest of the book is based on anything except her perception of what the story actually is or might be. SMH - so NO, if I had known she was misrepresenting ANY items, I would not have purchased this book. In fact, if I could get my money back, I would.
The FAKE NEWS media and the FBI are thoroughly exposed in this fantastic best seller. Richard Jewell was a simple man. Loved his country. Law abiding. Sadly, he proved to be the PERFECT scapegoat following the 1996 Bomb Explosion at Centennial Park in Atlanta. The FBI needed to quail fears at the Summer Olympics in ATL. The media needed a villain. Jewell was convenient. Becoming both. If not for super attorney Lin Wood he might have never been able to clear his name. After the dust had settled. Wood was able to expose the RUSH TO JUDGMENT news outlets. Collecting millions of dollars in legal defamation lawsuits for Jewell. His good name had been publicly destroyed by the likes of the ATL Constitution Journal, CNN and NBC News (just to name a few). If you are one of the naive left wing liberals who believe 70% of what you read in a daily newspaper, or see presented by the 3 mainstream media outlets each am & evening, chances are you are being duped.Simply put...all news organizations abide by the same creed. "WHERE THE NEWS COMES FIRST AND THE 'FACTS' NEVER ARRIVE." Profit and propaganda make good bedfellows in the press. This book pts out that any tax paying-GOD fearing citizen could fall victim to the same thing if caught up in the media outlets zealous attempt to sensationalize the truth. The laws surrounding freedom of the press have got to be adjusted. For all the ranting and raving about the 2nd amendment and GUNS. It is the 1st amendment that should reexamined by the Supreme Court. The lesson I got from this read. Don't ever go to war with people who buy their ink by the barrels..... or people who own the rights to airwaves who can transmit stories (false) thousands of miles. Both are far more deadly than a bullet.
